about the Write Her Future Scholarship
In September 2021, Lancôme, a leading luxury cosmetics brand in partnership with the NAACP established the Write Her Future scholarship for young undergraduate African American females in the United States. The Write Her Future scholarship award is given through the NAACP’s Youth Achievement program, the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO).
ACT-SO is a year-long achievement program that reaches over 10,000 college-bound students with the aim of building a forum for young students to excel in their school, work, and life. Lancôme is also committed to the elevation of women in society. They have been consistent in using their platform to enable change and influence women globally. It is to this end that these two bodies collaborated to provide the Write Her Future scholarship opportunity.
The Write Her Future scholarship will comprise both in-person and virtual training programs at local levels (Over 200 across the U.S). Apart from the financial support, Lancôme will also work with the NAACP to provide mentorship programs, workshops, and internship opportunities to award recipients. This is to foster female development post-college.
Since its inception in 2021, the Write Her Future scholarship opened applications in May 2022 and granted awards to 40 female students for the 2022/2023 academic session during the NAACP National Convention in July 2022.
Objectives of the Write Her Future Scholarship
Lancôme launched the Write Her Future scholarship to empower female students and help them excel in their career goals and aspirations. This scholarship aims to provide equitable education and reduce the disparities that exist between Black females and their counterparts. Did you know that on the National Reading assessment by Grade 12, the White-Black gap differential rises to 32%? This shows that high school is a crucial time in the educational life of young women of color. Not all young women have access to resources to help them excel in their academic endeavors.
As a result, Lancôme is determined to support women with the needed resources so they can create the successful life they deserve. As a brand that focuses on the happiness of women in general, its mission is to empower women through education, mentorship, and employment in order to achieve self-fulfillment and happiness.
The scholarships provide the opportunity for female students to further their career development in areas ranging from STEM to business management, marketing, and writing. This is a non-renewable scholarship opportunity.
Award Amount
The Write Her Future Scholarship gives awards totaling $400,000 annually to 40 female students. Each student receives a one-time award of $10,000. This generous scholarship offer can cover educational expenditures including fees, tuition, books, and the like. The brand has pledged to donate $2 million by 2025.
