The Odyssey of the Mind Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for students who are creative, apply innovation to problem-solving, and appreciate the value of teamwork. Sponsored by Creative Competitions, Inc. (CCI), this scholarship rewards students who have competed in the Odyssey of the Mind competition aimed at showcasing their creative and innovative abilities.

How Does the Scholarship Application Process Work?

The Odyssey of the Mind  scholarship is an international scholarship program but unlike most international scholarships, it is not based on financial need. Instead,  the program is designed  for students who have demonstrated their creative and problem-solving abilities through the Odyssey of the Mind Competition. So, in order to be eligible, you must have received certification from the competition. 

The  Odyssey of the Mind competition is replicated in several  countries with  each state having distinct  guidelines from other states, nevertheless, their ultimate goal is to encourage  creativity and problem-solving capabilities amongst  participants. 

Odyssey of the Mind Scholarships You Can Apply for Right Now

Pennsylvania Odyssey of the Mind Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded by the state of Pennsylvania and is paid directly to a post-secondary institution. The award covers tuition, accommodation, and other school-required fees.

NJ Odyssey of the Mind Scholarship 

This scholarship is sponsored by Dr. Harold Kurtz, a former Association Director of the NJ Odyssey of the Mind Program. 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have participated in the NJ Odyssey of the Mind program for at least one year. They must also be high school seniors during the current school year, with plans to attend a college, university, or a vocational school.

Applicants who are full-time students and currently enrolled at a college, university, or vocational school are also eligible. However, all awardees of this scholarship must not be previous NJ Odyssey of the Mind scholarship recipients. 

How to Apply

  1. Send your application materials to scholarship@njootm.org.
  2. Application materials should include letters of recommendation and transcripts.
  3. Scholarship winners will be announced at the State Finals on Saturday, April 1, 2023. 

Submission Deadline

For your application to be considered, it must be submitted on or before March 11, 2023. 

New York Odyssey of the Mind Scholarship

The objective of this year’s challenge is to produce a dynamic, enjoyable, and innovative video that is 3-5 minutes long, and incorporates all the essential information regarding participation in an Odyssey Tournament.

The video can be presented in various formats, such as a documentary, an animated feature, a musical theater performance, or any other form that allows for the expression of creativity

How to Apply

  1. To apply, fill out the form on the NJ application website, giving details of your Odyssey experience and what you have learned from your participation in Odyssey of the Mind.
  2. You can apply as an individual or on behalf of a group of people (Team)
  3. Provide a link to your video submission. Ensure it is shareable.

All applications must be submitted by April 1st, 2023, 11:59 pm. 

SoCal Odyssey of the Mind Scholarship 

This scholarship program is only available to division III high school seniors who meet the requirements. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have participated in the California South Odyssey of the Mind Competition. 

How to Apply 

All applications for this scholarship are done online. Before submitting your application, ensure you have the following:

  • Your completed online application, together with your transcript and letter of recommendation
  • Recommendation email address
  • School counselor’s email address
  • Essay of 500 words or less. The essay should address the following questions: 

1)     What, in your own words, is Odyssey of the Mind?

2)    How has participation in  Odyssey of the Mind changed you?

3)    How would you continue to use the skills you learned in Odyssey of the Mind in your daily life?

4)  How would you convince others to participate in Odyssey? Why?

  • A quick response to the question: If you could invent something that would make life easier for people, what would you invent and why?

The quick response should not exceed 150 words. 

  • A paragraph of 75 words or less in response to the question: What else would you like the scholarship review committee to know about you (e.g., activities, interests, passions, etc.)?

Delaware Odyssey of the Mind Scholarship

The individual applying for this scholarship should be a Delaware high school senior set to graduate as a member of the Class of 2023. Also, the applicant must have been part of a Delaware Odyssey of the Mind team during at least one year of their 9th through 12th-grade studies at a Delaware high school.

The applicant’s involvement in the Odyssey of the Mind program must be verifiable. The scholarship application project must be carried out entirely by the applicant, without any external assistance.
