The Glasgow Caledonian University is offering the Global Talent Scholarships programme for the upcoming 2022-2023 academic year, providing exciting opportunities for EU and international students to pursue their passion for research and earn a PhD degree at GCU.

What scholarships are available?

Global Talent Award scholarship for Home/RUK FT PhD students

For students commencing their studies in 2022/23, the GTA scholarship is worth £4,560 per year for three years and covers the tuition fees in full. A continuation fee will be payable in the fourth year- if needed.

Global Talent Award scholarship for Home/RUK PT PhD students 

For students commencing their studies in 2022/23, the GTA scholarship is worth £2,280 per year until the study is completed (up to a maximum of 6 years) and covers the tuition fees in full.

Global Talent Award scholarship for EU/International FT PhD students who are self-funded

For students commencing their studies 2022/23, the GTA scholarship is worth £7,700 per year for three years. The outstanding fee balance of £8,000 is payable annually for three years, plus a continuation fee in the fourth year if needed. This scholarship is for alumni and new GCU international students and is inclusive of these eligible discounts.

Global Talent Award with International Enhanced Scholarship for EU/International FT PhD students who are self-funded

For students commencing their studies in 2022/23, EU/International candidates of outstanding calibre may be awarded a GTA with an internationally enhanced scholarship. This scholarship is worth £15,700 per year for three years and covers the tuition fees at the international rate in full.  A continuation fee will be covered in the fourth year- if needed.

Eligibility criteria for the Global Talent Award Scholarship

Eligible Countries: All international students can apply.

Eligible Course or Subjects: PhD degree programme in any subject area offered by the university

Eligibility Criteria: The criteria for international candidates of outstanding calibre are:

  • Academic qualifications: UK 1st class honours degree (2:1 or equivalent) or Master’s degree with research skills relevant to your chosen research project or PhD topic.
  • Equivalent professional qualifications and any appropriate research experience will be considered.
  • External esteem markers, such as funded scholarships/awards/prizes
  • Good quality, peer-reviewed research publications
  • Exceptional combination or level of skills related to the project

To increase their chances of receiving the international enhanced scholarship, candidates are encouraged to showcase the aforementioned qualities in their applications for the advertised studentships. The university awards this scholarship to successful candidates who meet the exceptional criteria outlined above and are ranked highly among the limited number of internationally enhanced scholarships available each year. This scholarship is limited to 30% of the total studentship offerings across the university in a given year.

How to apply

Admission applications for postgraduate programmes must be made via the university portal.

Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:

  • Statement of purpose
  • Letter of reference
  • Academic and professional certificates
  • Academic transcripts
  • Passport

Admission Requirements: Students must hold relevant qualifications and submit all necessary documents.

Language Requirement: English language level of an IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) with no element below 6.0.

Applicants will automatically receive the Global Talent Award if they are selected by the panel from the university.
